What is RSS Follower?

RSS Follower is powerful but easy-to-use news reader. It's allow you to read all interisting news in one place. RSS Follower support RSS 2.0 and ATOM specifications.

Please note: Currently, the RSS Follower app does not support news aggregators.

App Icon and menu

RSS Follower located in the status bar. Using this icon you can get access to the RSS Follower menu.

This menu allows you to do:

Get new atricles from all feeds added in RSS Follower before.

Sidebar will be moved to the front, and spaces will be switched if needed.

Hide Sidebar if it visible / Show Sidebar if it was hidden.

Open New Subscription pane.

Open News Browser (first article will be chosen by default). If News Browser is already opened its window will be moved to the front, and spaces will be switched if needed.

Open Feeds Management pane that will allow you to add/remove feeds and also get short information about feeds.

Open Preferences pane that will allow you to change settings, behavior, and appearance of RSS Follower.

Open Keyboard Shortcuts pane in which you can find all of the available keyboard shortcuts.

Open Feedback pane that will allow you to send us your suggestions or inform us about any issues.

Quit from RSS Follower.

Please note:If you quit from RSS Follower you will not be able to get new articles until the RSS Follower is launched again.

Application Appearance

RSS Follower is made in the bright light and dark saturation styles. Each element of the application has been carefully designed and implemented in both styles. You can switch between three appearance mode: Default, Dark, and Light. By default was chosen Default Appearance Mode.

News Browser

Please note: Default Appearance Mode is determined by the appearance, which is set in System Preferences for the menu bar and Dock. When you change the appearance in System Preferences, the appearance of RSS Follower will be automatically changed to the same appearance.

New Subscription

To add new subscription you need to open the New Subscription pane first. You can open the New Subscription pane for 3 different ways.

Please click on the RSS Follower icon in the status bar and choose New Subscription. After that the New Subsctiption pane will be shown.

Please click on the Add Subscription in Sidebar. After that the New Subsctiption pane will be shown.

New Subscription

Please click on the the RSS link on the website in Safari. In the opened pane (as on the screenshot below) please click on the Cancel button. After that the New Subsctiption pane will be shown.

Please note:This is default behavior for Safari, other browsers may have a different behavior for RSS feeds links.

In the New Subscription pane please enter the link on website or direct link on RSS feed, if it has not been added previously. Then click on the Find RSS button, and after RSS Follower finds a feed, click on the Subscribe button.

In case if RSS Follower has found more than one RSS feed you will see a list of all available feeds. You can subscribe to one or more available feeds using the Subscribe button.

Import OPML file

Import OPML file allows you to add more than one RSS feeds in the one click. This is the best way to move all your rss feeds from other application into RSS Follower.

Please note: To import OPML file the Unlimited package must be activated first.

You can import OPML file using Feeds Management pane (To open Feeds Management pane please see App Icon and menu section).

After opening the Feeds Management pane, please click on the Action button and choose Import OPML file.

In the opened dialog please select OPML file that you want to import. Then you will see the list of feeds, that you can to import.

In this dialog you can select the feeds that you want to import. The RSS feeds that were added previously are marked as Added and you can not choose it to import again. In the dialog you can select any amount of the RSS feeds to import but make sure that at least one RSS feed is selected.

After you select the RSS feeds that you want to import, please press the Import button that would add them to the RSS Follower app. The dialog will close automatically after completion of the import.

How can I unsubscribe from the RSS feed?

In the RSS Follower app you can unsubscribe from the RSS feeds using Feeds Management pane (To open Feeds Management pane please see App Icon and menu section).

After opening the Feeds Management pane, please click on the Action button and choose Unsubscribe.

In the opened dialog box, you can choose between 2 options: Unsubscribe and keep articles and Unsubscribe.

In this case, all the articles will be saved from the removed feed, and if you add this feed again, these articles will be appear in the sidebar.

In this case, feed will be deleted as well as all the articles from the removed feed.

Keyboard shortcuts

You can use keyboard shortcuts — combinations of keys you press at the same time — to quickly accomplish many common tasks, such as add new subscription and manipulating RSS feeds.

Many menu options include their keyboard shortcuts, such as ⌘R, where the symbol represents a “modifier key” on your keyboard.
