Please note: Despite the fact that IconFly supports formats of vector images (e.g. AI, EPS, PDF), they will be rasterized before resizing and creating icons.

What icons can I create using IconFly?

Using IconFly, you can create all the necessary icons for OS X, iOS, Watch and Web. All icons created by IconFly fully compatible OS X 10.7 and later, iOS 8 and later, Apple Watch 38mm and 42mm. Also IconFly create WebClip images and favicon for Web.

IconFly allows to export icons in many different formats: IconSet, AppIconSet, ICNS, ICO or as separate images in PNG, JPEG and TIFF

How can I change an export sound effect?

You can easily change a sound effect for export right in Preferences pane. You can choose 1 of the following sound effects: IconFly (Default), Basso, Blow, Bottle, Frog, Funk, Glass, Hero, Morse, Ping, Pop, Purr, Sosumi, Submarine, Tink.

To open Preferences pane please select IconFly > Preferences… in main menu or press ⌘+,

Please note: If you want to turn off the export sound effect, please choose 'None' from the menu.

What about a mask that rounds corners for iOS icons?

When iOS displays an app icon on the Home screen of a device, it automatically applies a mask that rounds the corners. Make sure your icon has 90° corners so it looks good after the mask is applied.

From iOS Human Interface Guidline

According to this recommendation, IconFly does not apply a mask that rounds the corners to the icons in the AppIconset catalog for iOS applications. However, you still can create icons with round corners for iOS applications when you export icons using 'Create icons' function.

How can I create icons for iMessage Extension?

How can I add image to IconFly?

You can add images to IconFly in 3 different ways.

For add image from main menu please select File > Open…
or press ⌘+O

For add image from Finder please select image in Finder and open context menu (right click on image). In context menu please select Open With and choose IconFly in the list.

What if an image has wrong dimensions?

If the image has a wrong dimensions or disproportionate, you will see a special panel at the bottom of IconFly window by default.

Using this panel, you can generate icons with or without scaling. If you generate icons with scaling, the image dimensions will be changed to the required values. Also, aspect ratio will be set to 1:1. If you generate icons without scaling, the image aspect ratio will be saved but transparent background will be added.

You can change the default behavior in a Preferences pane. In the Preferences pane you can choose 1 of 3 options: Ask, Scale image, Don't scale image.

IconFly will be show the special panel every time you put an image with incorrect dimensions or aspect ratio into the drop zone.

If you choose Scale image, you will see a default panel at the bottom of IconFly window. When you click on the Generate button the icons will be generated with scaling.

If you choose Don't scale image, you will see a default panel at the bottom of IconFly window. When you click on the Generate button the icons will be generated without scaling.

Targets management

IconFly is based on Tabs system. Class icons to be created depends on a selected Target. Each Tab represents the separate Target with own settings. You can choose one or more Targets at one time.

You can add targets in two ways

To add the Target from main menu please click on File > Targets and choose one or more Targets.

Ta select the Target click to the needed Target in the sidebar. If the Target is selected, it is highlighted in blue. In other case, it is highlighted in gray.
To deselect Target click on it again.

After generate you can switch between Tabs in two different ways

To switch Targets in the main menu please click on View and select the tab you want to switch.

To switch Targets please click on an inactive target in sidebar.

IconFly supports many different ways to close tabs. You can close Tab from main menu as well as from sidebar. To close Tab from main menu please select File and click on one of the next items: Close All Tabs, Close Inactive Tabs, Close.

To close an active Tab please select File > Close in main menu
or press ⌘+W

Also you can close any tab from sidebar. To do this, move the mouse cursor over the tab you want to close, and click the close button.

What is QuickIcon?

QuickIcon is an easy and quick way for create all icons in one click. Using QuickIcon you can create all necessary icons for OS X, iOS, Watch and Web.

Please note: If the image that you add to IconFly has a wrong dimension or disproportionally, you can not use QuickIcon by default. To use QuickIcon for these images, please set Dimension Control to Scale image or Don't scale image.

In the Preference Pane you can customize what exactly icons will be created for each target.

For OS X target you can choose one of these options:

Create folder with all necessay images with correct dimensions.

Create AppIcon.appiconset folder with all necessary images and special file. AppIcon.appiconset is fully compatible with Xcode 6.0 or later.

Create single ICNS file with retina support.

For iOS target you can choose one of these options:

Create AppIcon.appiconset folder with all necessary images and special file. AppIcon.appiconset is fully compatible with Xcode 6.0 or later.

Create folder with all necessay images with correct dimensions.

Please note: QuickIcon for iOS will be created according selected types: Universal Icons, iPhone Icons, iPad Icons

For Apple Watch target you can choose one of these options:

Create folder with all necessay images with correct dimensions.

For Web target you can choose one of these options:

Create folder with all necessay images with correct dimensions for represented your website on the home screen of iOS devices.
Supported iOS 5 or later.

Create single favicon file contains the next dimensions: 16x16 px, 32x32 px, 48x48 px, 128x128 px.

How make icon for Mac?

If the image has correct dimensions and aspect ratio you will see default generate panel in the bottom of the IconFly window. To generate icons, click on Generate button.

But if the image has wrong dimensions or disproportionately you will see special panel. To generate icons, click on Generate With Scaling or Generate Without Scaling buttons.

In any case, after generate icons you will see the OS X target view with different sizes of icons each in its own cell. You can change any icon in any cell. To do this, drag a new image in a cell in which you want to replace. Please make sure that the new image is greater than or equal to a size of a cell. This size is written below the cell.

You can switch between standard dimensions and retina dimensions using the button in the toolbar.

Using IconFly you can add rounding or masks to the icons. To add rounding, click on Settings button. In the list that appears select 1 of 6 different round radii: 80px, 120px, 180px, 220px, 256px, 512px.

To add rounding, click on Settings button. In the list that appears switch to Mask tab and select 1 of 6 different masks.

To disabled a round or a mask click on the same round or mask again.

Please note: You can add rounding or mask but not both.

You can preview an icon on the Dock directly from IconFly. To do this, please click on the Preview in Dock button or select View > Preview OS X Icon in Dock or press ⌘+D
